Anonymous asked: I've noticed a few times that you've said that Les Mis is actually after the Revolution. I'm really bad at history and years, so could you make a timeline or explain this to me?

lesmisconfessions:

1789~1799:
the big french revolution with king louis xvi and marie antoinette and the guillotine and robespierre’s reign of terror

1799-1804:
napoleon bonaparte steps in like “bitch, i got this” and screws around a lot and eventually gets himself crowned dictator emperor

1815:
napoleon gets a kick in the metaphorical ass at the battle of waterloo, loses, and is sent in exile to the island of elba where he later dies. oops.
king louis xviii is now king of france
thénardier saves marius’ dad (in the brick)
valjean is released on parole and has a run-in with the bishop

1821ish:
valjean is now m. madeleine and does all the fancy factory stuff and meets fantine and adopts cosette and you know the rest

1824:
charles x becomes the french king

1830:
there is this thing called the july revolution in france where king charles and his bourbon family get kicked out and the house of orléans takes over; louis-philippe becomes king
apparently enjolras and his fellow amis participated in the july revolution and it was a super fantastic success

1832:
general lamarque dies; this leads to the june rebellion, aka victor hugo’s favorite émeute where enjolras and co. all get shot (it’s not very effective)

1848:
louis-philippe finally gets kicked out and the actual monarchy is dissolved when the french revolution of 1848 happens; another napoleon comes in and eventually gets himself to be emperor/president of the brand-spanking-new second french republic

(this was way too long but no regrets yeah)
